Event
Low and medium temperature geothermal energy, both shallow and deep, is a key resource for the development of district heating and cooling networks, from traditional high-temperature systems to new generation low-temperature networks. Deeper geothermal solutions can power conventional networks, while the use of high-performance heat pumps allows to improve the efficiency of low-temperature networks, reduce losses and promote integration with other renewable sources and thermal storage systems, including seasonal ones. In urban and peri-urban areas, this flexibility concretely contributes to reducing emissions and achieving European climate neutrality goals.
