Italy has emerged as one of Europe’s fastest-growing energy-storage markets, achieving nearly 13 GWh of cumulative ESS by 2024 and installing a record 6 GWh in 2024 alone, driven largely by utility-scale project build-out. While the residential market has slowed due to changes in the Superbonus policy, the commercial & industrial (C&I) and large-scale storage sectors are now positioned for strong and sustained growth. With Italy targeting 95 GWh of installed storage by 2030 and preparing for major grid-scale procurement rounds such as the MACSE auctions starting in 2025, the coming years will be decisive for the deployment of advanced technologies, new business models, and services essential for integrating Italy’s rapidly expanding renewable energy fleet.
This 90-minute session at KEY 2026 Rimini brings together leaders from research institutions, market analysts, policymakers, industry associations, and technology manufacturers. It highlights forward-looking trends in large-scale and C&I storage, covering new technologies, regulations, market structures, and investment drivers that will shape the next decade of Italian and European ESS markets.
