The government has initiated a process to relaunch nuclear energy in Italy, focusing on small modular reactor (SMR) technologies. The plan includes support for research, simplification of authorizations, and the goal of integrating nuclear power with renewables to achieve decarbonization. A delegated law bill has been approved and 7.5 million euros have been allocated for informational campaigns on nuclear energy between 2025 and 2026. While nuclear scenarios are being defined, renewables continue to grow, with an increase of 4 GW from January to August 2025. The debate will serve to compare different viewpoints on Italian energy scenarios.
